The classic behavior for most forums is that any link within the text of a post needs to land on a new tab so that it doesn't take the user away from the forum. There's probably a setting somewhere for that.

there definitely is. i had avoided it bc i am of the era where everyone resented that but nah i agree i should turn that setting on.
fwiw i find that setting highly hostile; if i want a new tab I’ll use the new tab option that’s in every browser, and the back button exists to get back to the forum.
